Sunday's Streamed Service
Advent Week 3

As we prepare to light our second Advent Candle we think of the Prophets of old who foretold the wonderful promise of our Saviour’s birth.
John the Baptist was sent ahead of our Lord to prepare the people for Jesus’ ministry and what he would tell them; to make it clear to them (and us now), just who Jesus was. He foretold the Good News!
From Luke’s Gospel we read:
The people were waiting expectantly and wondering in their hearts if John (the Baptist) might possibly be the Messiah. But John answered them all. ‘I baptise you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come….. . He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.’
With many other words John exhorted the people and proclaimed the good news to them.
Before we light our third candle to remind and guide us, please hear these words and join in with the response in bold type. The words are on the screen.
We’ve sorted gifts and who needs what,
What will they like, what will be good?
But are there more we need to include?
O hush the noise,
Let’s hear the angels sing.
What of those alone, adrift, forgotten and neglected?
Those for whom our Lord came too?
What gift of help needs wrapping now?
O hush the noise,
Let’s hear the angels sing
Please now light the third red candle;
We will now sing verse1 +3 of StF No.165
The words are on the screen.
Please remain seated as we sing this.
1 Advent candles tell their story
as we watch and pray,
longing for the Day of Glory,
‘Come, Lord, soon,’ we say.
Pain and sorrow, tears and sadness
changed for gladness
on that day.
3 John the Baptist, by his preaching
and by water poured,
brought to those who heard his teaching
news of hope restored:
‘Keep your vision strong and steady,
and be ready
for the Lord.’
