Sunday's Streamed Service

Advent Liturgy

As we prepare to light our second Advent Candle we think of the Prophets of old who foretold the wonderful promise of our Saviour’s birth.

From the Book of Malachi we read:

I will send my messenger who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the Covenant, whom you desire will come, says the Lord Almighty.

Then the Lord will have men who bring offerings in righteousness and the offerings... will be acceptable to the Lord.

Before we light our second candle to remind and guide us, please hear these words and join in with the response in bold type. The words are on the screen.

Looking for the messengers who bring the light,
Isaiah – prophet and ancient poet
And John the Baptist who came to point the way.
O hush the noise,

Let’s hear the angels sing.

Angels, messengers of today,
Truth tellers for this present age,
Those who now show us the way.
O hush the noise,
Let’s hear the angels sing.

Please now light the first red candle.

Please remained seated while we sing verses 1+ 2 of StF No.165

Advent 1

1 Advent candles tell their story
as we watch and pray,
longing for the Day of Glory,
‘Come, Lord, soon,’ we say.
Pain and sorrow, tears and sadness
changed for gladness
on that day.

Advent 2

2 Prophet voices loudly crying,
making pathways clear,
glimpsing glory, self-denying,
calling all to hear.
Through their message — challenged, shaken —
hearts awaken:
God is near!

It is with sadness that we heard of the death of Maureen Lee (Theatre Church) on Tuesday morning. Loving mother of Richard and Suzanne, dear grandma and great grandma, devoted sister of Dorothy Pendlebury.

Richard is our son in law suffering with mouth cancer. Dennis and Doreen Hobson.
