After the awful weather we had on Saturday the sun shone for the BBQ that was held at St. James’s Catholic today. A group from our church joined our friends from St. James and St. Andrew’s (Hope Centre) after our morning service along with families who live on Johnson Fold.
There was beef burgers, hot dogs and sweetcorn cooked on the BBQs along with all the accompaniments that go with them.
Everyone queued up to get whatever they wanted, chatting to people and getting to know other people from the community while they waited their turn. And it was well worth the wait. The food was good.
To follow we had ice cream before the African group from St. James sang a couple of songs for us, which were very lively, keeping in beat with the drum and harmonised beautifully.
For the children there were parachute games, face painting organised and they were all enjoyed mixing together and having fun.
Everyone from the three churches mixed and chatted to one another and it was a happy occasion. As Father Patrick is retiring he was presented with a card and Vinny and Ollie said a few words and a prayer.
The sun shone all through the afternoon and everyone went home after a very enjoyable time together.
Thank you to St James for hosting the occasion and all the hard work preparing the BBQ. Let’s hope and pray this will be the first of many occasions when our three churches in the Johnson Fold Community get together and work more closely spreading God’s message of Love.
