Service Review: 28th January 2018

This morning's service was taken by Dave Bagley of Urban Outreach, and having been welcomed by Joe Leighton we had a quiet reflection on Derek Clarke and Terry Pendlebury who, sadly, both died this week.

Dave then thanked the church for the regular support we give to Urban Outreach.

Hymn 83 " Praise my soul the King of heaven " was our opening hymn , followed by the reading from Judges chap, 3 v 31 Shamgar and the ox goad.

The children were invited to sit at the front whilst Dave encouraged us all to think about "Choices." He told a tale that involved us all voting in order to develop the plot! Choices in real life give us control over situations we find ourselves in , and we can become part of God s plan for us.

The Lord s Prayer was sung, followed by a prayer.

Hymn 404 "God's spirit is in my heart" was sung before the children went into Junior Church.

Mrs. Pat Clark then read Acts ch 3 vs 1-11. A lame man is healed at the Beautiful Gate of the temple.

The sermon was entitled "Visions."

It came under three headings:

  1. Starting well.
  2. Living well
  3. Ageing well.

All these were related to "staying connected" to God. Are we "the right stuff" in "the right place" at "the right time?" So our challenge is, are we the right stuff, the people He wants us to be?

The story of Peter and John healing the lame man at the Beautiful Gate took place in a crowded place ---- they were in the right place at the right time. The miracle of the feeding of the 5000 was enabled because the boy was in the right place at the right time. These were not co-incidences , they were planned by God who has a plan for every moment of our lives. Miracles happen when people are ready and in the right place to do God's will.

Prayers were followed by Hymn 563. Oh Jesus I have promised. Prayers of Intersession came next. The Offering came with the singing of Hymn 503 . Love divine. The Blessing ended the service.

Kindly written by Mrs. Ruth Parker
