Service Review: 25th September 2016

This weeks service was led by Rev Hilary Howarth. It was a lovely service with Eddie and Annie Scowcroft leading the prayers.

During the service the JMA awards were presented. As Sally is going to university we now have two new JMA secretaries, Ruth and Catriona who were commissioned during the service. Sally was presented with a gift as she is going away.

The sermon was very thought provoking based on the parable of the prodigal son. Hilary presented it in three parts, each part looking at a different aspect. A picture of Rembrandt's painting of the prodigal son was shown and used during the sermon.

Hilary looked at it from the perspective of the younger son, the older son and the father. Each as equally important but showing the relationship between us and God. As the father in the story longs for his son to come home so God the father longs for lost souls to come back to him. It is a story we know so well but it was so good to look at it from different aspects. It made you think are we the younger brother or the older brother.

Do we really understand how God the Father feels?

In between each part we sang a song which was lovely. Not only did we have a sermon on the Prodigal son but we also had an insight into Rembrandt when he painted his painting.
