Today our service was led by Rev Ian Smart – so much happened it was an action-packed service so I am not going to give a rundown of everything that happened just a flavour of what it was about.
Ian was encouraging us to worship the Lord in different ways – this morning was with dance, it started with a video of David dancing in praise of the Lord – not a choreographed piece of dancing just pure joy expressed through dance.
This was followed with ‘Teach me to dance’ Joe Leighton and Trevor Massey then read 2 Samuel 6 1-5 and 11-19. The young people were then encouraged to come to the front and show some of their dance moves – then the rest of the congregation were reminded of how we use to dance – Ian at the Powerhouse and Dome in Birmingham us at the at the” Palais” in Bolton, members of the congregation joined in the dancing even dancing around a handbag – those were the days.
This was followed by a video of the young people dancing at Soul survivor just expressing their love of God through dance. Then came “I am the Lord of the dance”. Chloe Fountayne read a very difficult passage from 1 Chronicles Chap. 16 v. 1-9; in which David allocated tasks to different people. This was emphasized by Ian setting up a chain of people to get a box of sweets from one end of a line to the other, the fact that everyone has a place in Gods scheme and it is what we bring to the church rather than what we take away is the important part.
Eddie and Annie Scowcroft read the third reading Matthew Chap.22 v. 1-10 followed by “When the music fades all is stripped away”.
None of us should be passive we need to interact as a team to take the message out into the community. This we did with great enthusiasm singing “When the spirit of the Lord comes upon my Heart” all about Jesus as we processed out of church singing with joy within the community.
