What a lively service – led by Mark and Sue. The service began by singing “Tell out my Soul”.

A series of pictures of footprints left in sand were shown. The congregation were able to Identify, dog, seagull, horse, elephant and snake. Even the final picture was identified as that of Neil Armstrong, made on the moon, this of course will be permanent, not washed away. Hence the theme of ‘leaving your mark’ became clear.

Two short readings were used to focus on the light of God:

Matthew 5:16: In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Psalm 119: 105: Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Sue emphasised this idea by singing two very catchy songs “Shine” and ‘Your word is a lamp’.

The young people were dispatched to leave their mark by decorating gingerbread biscuits.

Introducing the talk we ‘where asked where will God take us in 2016? ’ Sue explained that she had once had a walk alongside a canal which had ended with Hilary convincing her that she should become a candidate for the Methodist ministry – this year she will complete her study in Birmingham and take up a post as a probationary minister in the Lancaster area.

The college had a sign over the door saying ‘you are entering a place of worship’ – but it was on the inside and could only be read as you exited the building.

The college tutors have assured Sue that God is already waiting for her in Lancaster and she assured us that whatever task we undertake God will be already there waiting to support us.

The decorated biscuits were admired and to close the lively hymns,’ We are marching in the light of God’ and ‘Lord for the years’.

Do Nothing To Change Your Life

Call to worship: Jesus said “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Spiritual de-clutter

Les has always said that when I die on my grave stone it’s going to say “She cluttered!” I do clutter it’s quite true. I don’t like to throw things away and I’m the magpie that collects everything because you never know when it will come in useful! Everything can be turned into a sermon illustration!
