Around a thousand people gathered last weekend to celebrate the opening of the new Triangle Community Methodist Church.
The new Triangle Community Methodist Church, situated on Chorley Old Road celebrated as over 500 people came to have a look round on the Open Day on Saturday 1st November and another 250 attended each of the Dedication and Songs of Praise services on Sunday 2nd.
It was a wonderful occasion enjoyed by everyone who attended and as the new Minister, Rev. Hilary Howarth, commented “It is such a joy to be here in this beautiful building which is the culmination of 5 years dedicated effort by the 4 Methodist churches that have joined together to become the Triangle.” The new Church was dedicated by the President of the Methodist Conference, Rev. Ken Howcroft, himself a Boltonian, who brought prayers & greetings from the whole Methodist Connexion across the UK. The Superintendent Minister for the Bolton Circuit, Rev. Jennifer Mc Kenzie, was also full of praise for the achievement and believed that the new Church would now play a key role in serving God and the local community.
Local residents who had watched the new Church take shape over the past year marvelled at the stunning stained glass windows and the modern, open-plan facilities and looked forward to visiting the new coffee lounge which will be open 5 days a week 10am – 2.30pm. Many church members who had seen their dream of a new church finally turn into reality were visibly moved by the whole achievement commenting that the packed Sunday services were reminiscent of the ‘golden age’ of Sermons Days 50- 60 years ago.
As Rev. Hilary Howarth concluded “We can now go forward with confidence knowing that we have a building which is a place for everyone and where everyone is welcome”. - Stuart Whittle
