Liturgy Lent for Week One: Symbol The Cup of Suffering

Today is the first Sunday in Lent and we shall place the symbol of the Cup of Suffering.

Please respond with the words in bold type.

God came in to the world as Jesus Christ,
Not to condemn the world, but to save it.
Living our life, God calls us to live His life.
In the wilderness, Christ faced hunger and thirst for our sake,
In the garden He accepted the cup of suffering for our sake.
God came into the world as Jesus Christ,
Not to condemn the world but, but to save it.

As Jesus put the needs of the world before His own needs
Let us seek to lay our selfishness aside for the sake of others.
Lord, we offer you thanksgiving and praise.
Saviour, we offer You love and worship.

We shall now sing Verse 1 of “When I survey the Wondrous Cross”. Please remain seated during the singing.

When I survey the wondrous Cross,
On which the Prince of Glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride.
