Within the next few weeks work should be completed on the new Triangle Community Methodist Church on the site of the former Delph Hill Methodist at the junction of Chorley Old Road and New Church Road.

This is eagerly awaited by the members (who currently worship at the former Chorley Old Road Methodist Church) as it represents the culmination of 5 years of planning and development since the Methodist Churches at Astley Bridge, Halliwell and Chorley Old Road agreed to come together to create a new Church.

Incidentally, the Triangle name was chosen as it signifies the coming together of 3 Churches (on the 4th Church site at Delph Hill), the Trinity and the shape of the site.

The official opening of the new Church will take place on 2nd November when the President of the Methodist Conference, Rev. Ken Howcroft, will travel up from London to lead the Dedication Service. As well as services at 10.30am and 6.30pm on the Sunday, there will be an Open Day on Saturday 1st when the Church will be open to the public to see and hear about the exciting range of church & community activities that are planned. These will include a new café serving the local community (which will be open most weekdays) as well as music, craft, adult learning, drama, young people’s and toddlers’ activities.

The opening of the new Church coincides with the arrival of a new Minister, Rev. Hilary Howarth, who is enthusiastic about the new challenge:

"It is such a privilege for me to return to my home town to serve as the Minister for the Triangle Community Methodist Church. The people in the church have worked exceptionally hard to turn their vision of a new building to serve the needs of the local community and church family into a reality. I am delighted to join them at this exciting time and together we look forward to a bright future."

The Triangle Church is designed to serve the whole of North Bolton and its members are particularly keen to play their part in the religious and social life of the Astley Bridge, Halliwell, Heaton & Smithills areas. It will be a modern, light and airy place with built-in flexibility to hold all sorts of events and the whole space will be flooded with the light from newly–designed stained glass windows. For further details about the new church please contact Rev. Hilary Howarth on 291698.
